How to Use Your Reusable Injector Pen (Step-by-Step)

Ambrosia's reusable injector pen is designed for comfortable, precise subcutaneous dosing. Once set up, the same pen carries you through every cycle — only the cartridge changes. Here is how to prepare, prime and inject with confidence.

Setting up a new cartridge

  1. Remove the pen cap.
  2. Unscrew the cartridge casing.
  3. Screw a fresh needle onto the casing.
  4. Insert a cartridge into the casing, pressing gently until it seats at the bottom.
  5. Screw the casing (with cartridge) back onto the pen until snug.
  6. Dial the setting knob to 60 units.
  7. Remove the needle's protective covers.
  8. With the needle pointing upwards, press the plunger fully.
  9. Repeat until a droplet appears at the needle tip — this purges trapped air.
  10. Your pen is now primed and ready for dosing.

How to inject

  1. Remove the pen cap, then the needle cap.
  2. Dial in the dose recommended for your product.
  3. Insert the needle straight in (at a 90° angle, not tilted) into a fatty fold of skin — the abdomen is the most common site.
  4. Press the plunger and hold for 5 seconds.
  5. Withdraw the pen.
  6. Replace the needle cap, then the pen cap.

Good-practice tips

  • Rotate sites between injections to avoid irritation and lipohypertrophy.
  • Store cold — keep the pen refrigerated between 2–8 °C. Never freeze.
  • Dispose safely — place used needles in a sharps container; never in household bins.
  • Single-use needles — fit a new needle for every injection.
  • If you feel resistance or pain, stop and contact our clinical team.

A few things to avoid

  • Reusing a needle (it dulls and increases discomfort).
  • Injecting through clothing or into bruised, swollen or irritated skin.
  • Skipping the priming step — air in the cartridge affects dose accuracy.

Every Ambrosia prescription comes with clinician oversight. If anything feels unclear once your pen arrives, message our support team and a nurse or prescriber will walk you through it.
